Esther Neel is a theatre director and multidisciplinary artist based in Lexington, Kentucky, renowned for her imaginative storytelling and collaborative approach.

With a strong foundation in scenic art and extensive experience in both educational and professional theatre, Esther brings a vivid visual language and cohesive vision to every production. She has served as Charge Scenic Artist for Wagon Wheel Center for the Arts and Lexington Children’s Theatre, where her design background deeply informs her directorial work.

Esther’s directing experience spans classic works, new plays, large-scale musicals, and devised theatre. She has led world premieres, regional productions, and youth-focused performances, always approaching each project with curiosity, creativity, and a deep respect for the collaborative process. Her ability to adapt her vision to a wide range of styles and audiences makes her a trusted partner in both new work development and reimagining familiar stories.

Beyond directing, Esther is a versatile theatre artist whose work includes scenic painting, prop creation, teaching, devising, and arts administration. She is passionate about helping others bring their creative visions to life—whether through hands-on collaboration or guiding a team from concept to execution. With a deep commitment to storytelling in all forms, Esther thrives in dynamic environments where imagination, artistry, and purpose come together.
